Financial Education
Horace Mann agents provide complimentary financial wellness workshops for educators at schools and online, covering important topics such as financial literacy, retirement readiness and long-term planning. Because each state has its own educator retirement system (some with multiple options), we help educators navigate these complex systems to ensure they understand their requirements, benefits and potential retirement income so they can plan with confidence.
Horace Mann also recognizes that the financial challenges faced by educators are not always experienced equally. More than three-quarters of public school teachers (77%) are women, who have historically faced greater barriers to financial security, pay gaps, career interruptions and longer life expectancy. One of our workshops specifically addresses these factors, helping women prepare for a more financially secure retirement.
In addition, our HMScore program provides educators free access to their credit report, score and ongoing monitoring. This tool helps educators confidently understand their financial standing and provides proactive steps to improve their financial health.
Student Loan Solutions
The U.S. Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program was designed to support careers in public service by offering loan forgiveness after 10 years of qualifying payments. However, for many educators, navigating the process can be time-consuming and confusing.
This is where Horace Mann steps up to help by offering every public school educator in the country complimentary access to Student Loan Solutions, a program that includes webinars, online resources, and expert loan coaches to help educators understand their options and maximize the loan forgiveness they’ve earned.
In 2025 alone, the program helped educators identify $24.5 million in projected loan forgiveness opportunities and find an average monthly savings of more than $270 on student loan payments. Since its inception, the program has identified more than $740 million in projected loan forgiveness opportunities.
Classroom Crowdfunding
Teachers regularly spend hundreds of dollars of their own money each year to provide essential classroom supplies for their students. Through our national partnership with DonorsChoose, Horace Mann helps fund projects identified by teachers as critical to student learning—allowing educators to keep more of their own money. Since 2010, Horace Mann and its representatives have donated more than $7.8 million to DonorsChoose, funding nearly 22,000 projects and creating more than 2.1 million student learning experiences. In 2025, Horace Mann contributed $385,000 to DonorsChoose.
Educator Advantage®
Our Educator Advantage® program is just one of the ways we thank educators for the work they do every day. The program is designed specifically for the unique needs of educators and provides them with added benefits and enhanced coverages on their auto and home insurance at no additional cost, such as:
- No deductible on a covered vandalism loss at school or a school event
- No deductible on a collision claim at school or a school event
- Coverage if money or goods for a school event are stolen while in your possession

Responsible Products and Business Practices
At Horace Mann, we design innovative products and services specifically for the K-12 market to help them prepare for retirement and a secure financial future.
- Our Retirement Advantage® mutual fund platform has no surrender charges and does not share revenue with third-party investment firms, such as Vanguard, J.P. Morgan, and Lincoln. Retirement Advantage® provides a competitive, guaranteed fixed-income product as well.
- In addition to Retirement Advantage®, our current variable annuity products also have no surrender charges and no revenue sharing. These products provide a guaranteed fixed income rate with some of the lowest expenses in the industry, providing flexible solutions designed for educators’ long-term financial goals.
- We clearly disclose the potential risk of our products in various ways, including descriptions of relevant investment risks and coverage considerations on our consumer websites and in our marketing materials to ensure educators can make informed financial decisions with confidence.
Beyond insurance and retirement products, Horace Mann offers ways for customers in select states to help mitigate environmental-related risks, including climate change. For example:
- We provide a discount when customers install impact-resistant roofs
- We offer discounts when customers take steps to mitigate or prevent wildfire damage
- We employ a full-time underwriter and wildfire mitigation specialist who consults with our homeowner customers and recommends risk mitigation techniques
Delivering exceptional customer service is a core priority at Horace Mann. Our key objectives include maximizing first-call resolution and ensuring a prompt service experience that drives customer satisfaction. Specifically, we measure success through the percentage of first-call resolution, call response time and the likelihood of customers recommending our services to others.
In 2025, our Customer Care Center handled nearly 474,000 customer calls. Of these:
- More than 74% were answered within 30 seconds or less
- More than 91% were resolved during the initial contact
- More than 72% of surveyed customers said they would recommend Horace Mann
Our ongoing focus on responsiveness, resolution efficiency and distinctive service continues to ensure we meet and exceed customer expectations.
In 2025, we also received 574 complaints, a small increase from 558 in 2024. This reflects the trust educators place in us to address their concerns and underscores our commitment to listening, learning, and continuously improving how we service educators.
Educator Growth & Wellbeing
Professional growth and workplace culture are critical to educator satisfaction, retention and long-term success. When educators feel supported in developing their skills, understanding their strengths, and collaborating effectively with colleagues, entire school communities benefit.
In the past year, Horace Mann has expanded its commitment to educator wellbeing by introducing new initiatives focused on professional development, creativity and collaboration.
Crayola Understanding Creativity Workshop
At Horace Mann, we understand that educators work alongside individuals with diverse thinking styles, communication approaches and creative strengths. In partnership with Crayola, we offer the Understanding Creativity workshop, a research-based program that helps educators identify their individual creative profile and how they express creativity.
By gaining these insights, educators can strengthen collaboration, improve communication and foster more inclusive and productive work environments. Offered through our local agent network, this workshop is provided at no cost to schools, reinforcing our commitment to equitable access and educator wellbeing.
This initiative supports stronger teamwork, enhances school culture and affirms our belief that everyone is creative and contributes value to their community.
A Heart for Service in Education Workshop through the Disney Institute
Horace Mann also partners with the Disney Institute to deliver a unique professional development experience for educators. This immersive program focuses on leadership, service excellence and organizational culture, equipping educators with practical strategies to enhance engagement, collaboration and performance within their schools and districts.

Recognizing outstanding educators
We believe it’s important to recognize outstanding educators at both a national and local level. Horace Mann partners with educational organizations and school districts across the country to award outstanding teachers, school employees and administrators who go above and beyond for their students and their communities.
Through the Horace Mann Educators Foundation, we partner with the NEA Foundation to present the annual Awards for Teaching Excellence, honoring exceptional educators nationwide.
We also sponsor the Women in School Leadership Awards with AASA, The School Superintendents Association, as well as the District 186 Educator of the Year program in our corporate headquarters of Springfield, Ill.
