Turning passion into opportunity

May 4, 2026
At Horace Mann, our commitment to supporting those who serve others often begins with the passion of our employees, and extends into the communities we’re proud to serve. That’s exactly what happened with Unfaulted.
What started as an employee request to match a personal donation sparked a deeper conversation, revealing a powerful mentoring program for young women who had aged out of foster care but still needed guidance and support. That connection led to support through the Horace Mann Educators Foundation, which focuses on helping educators find pathways for their students to overcome systemic barriers. Through the Foundation, a $5,000 grant was awarded to Unfaulted’s Study Hall program, helping participants continue their education and work toward their GED.
For many of these young women, the path to education hasn’t been straightforward. They’ve faced frequent moves and limited access to technology, making it difficult to complete high school. This grant is helping remove those barriers in a tangible way, providing Chromebooks and a structured, supportive environment where participants can study, build life skills and take meaningful steps toward independence. Early results are already promising, with 10 young adults supported in the first quarter of 2026. As one participant shared after using the new resources, “Now I know I’ll be able to get my GED with these computers.”
Stories like this reflect the mission of the Horace Mann Educators Foundation in action. By listening to our employees and investing in organizations like Unfaulted, we’re helping create opportunities where they’re needed most, and strengthening our communities.
