Horace Mann recognizes Springfield’s top educators

Horace Mann helped honor the top educators in its headquarters location of Springfield, Ill., this month.
Jason Potter, a science teacher at Southeast High School, was named 2024 Springfield Public Schools Educator of the Year.One parent who nominated Mr. Potter called his teaching style unique. “Mr. Potter has mastered the combination of a high achieving classroom and a personal connection with each student.”
Mr. Potter is known for helping students find their connection to science and then introducing them to professionals in the field to solidify their interest in a science career.
Jason Wind, executive director of school support for Springfield Public Schools, was named 2024 Administrator of the Year. James Biggers, a math teacher at Southeast High School; Terrelle Jackson, an English teacher at Lanphier High School; and Emily Standley, a social studies teacher at Lincoln Magnet School, were named the district’s “Rising Stars.”
