Horace Mann is a mission-centric company focused on making a positive impact among America’s educational community, our employees and the communities where we live and work. It’s the heart of what we do. In 2024, we delivered on our mission through our corporate strategies and philanthropic initiatives.

According to a 2024 survey, while many educators face significant challenges such as staffing shortages, stress and financial concerns, the majority remain committed to the profession because of their students and passion for teaching. At Horace Mann, we remain committed to addressing these challenges while helping educators protect what they have today and achieve lifelong financial success.

Highlights of our efforts in 2024 to support our customers included:

  • Empowering Educators Financially: We launched HMScore™ in partnership with TransUnion, giving educators free access to their credit reports, scores, and monitoring tools—empowering them with valuable financial insights.
  • Student Loan Solutions: The program helped educators identify $28.8 million in total projected student loan forgiveness opportunities and find an average of more than $250 in monthly savings on student loan payments, alleviating financial burdens and enabling them to focus on their vital roles.
  • Classroom Support: Through our partnership with DonorsChoose, Horace Mann funded 1,866 projects, supporting 1,558 educators and helping them reduce out-of-pocket expenses while enhancing learning experiences for students.
  • Exclusive Insurance Benefits: Our Educator Advantage® program continues to offer educators exclusive benefits, providing extra coverage on auto and home insurance at no additional cost.

Our corporate social responsibility commitments address the needs of all of our stakeholder groups, and in 2024 we made progress on sustainability and social impact. For example, we:

  • Achieved a 61% reduction in our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions from our 2019 baseline, once again surpassing our initial targets ahead of the 2030 deadline.
  • Integrated climate risk considerations into our underwriting and investment decisions to proactively address environmental challenges.
  • Submitted our inaugural CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) climate change questionnaire, used by investors to assess environmental risks and opportunities of investments.
  • Supported employee work-life balance, with 87% of employees agreeing in the employee experience survey that they have the flexibility they need to balance work and personal responsibilities.
  • Awarded nearly $480,000 to support education- and community-focused non-profit organizations through the Horace Mann Educators Foundation, an independent charitable organization formed by Horace Mann Educators Corporation.

As we move forward in 2025, we remain committed to responsible business practices that drive positive impact and help build a sustainable future.
